The Colorful Outpost of Longyearbyen, Svalbard

We made it to Svalbard, where the sun behaves strangely, the mountains look permanently dramatic, and the locals casually remind you to watch out for polar bears. One of the most memorable stops here was the Global Seed Vault, build deep inside a frozen mountain. It doesn’t look like much from the outside—just a concrete entrance—but inside are seeds from across the globe, stored safely in case we ever need to rebuild agriculture. It’s a strange but reassuring idea: even in this remote Arctic valley, humanity has tucked away a little insurance policy for the future.
