Description

Løvold Kafeteria

“Restaurants come and go, but Løvolds Kafeteria remains. Johan and Ågot Løvold quickly realized that hungry stomachs were bad customers. The cafeteria therefore followed the year after the store was established. On August 30, 1938, they opened their doors. And has not been closed since, apart from a few periods during the corona pandemic!

The cafe has had the same objective since the beginning: that everyone should be full and that the food should be of good quality. The host receives much recognition for its dishes of lamb, salmon, pollock and cod, as well as baked goods from its own bakery. Løvold is the place for those who want to choose from a menu with understandable words, eat Norwegian home cooking and get their fill of homemade food.

With the exception of an unpopular experiment with pizza in the 90s, it has been about hearty, Norwegian home cooking at Løvold. Because that's what everyone says about Salten's oldest cafeteria - Løvold. You are then on a first name basis with your friends. And for many, Løvold is a friend. In any case, a place where you are guaranteed to meet friends.

Ownership is now with Hege and Kjell-Erik Løvold. People want home-cooked food. We give them that. We don't celebrate with that!

The golden years were the 50s and 60s. Then Hurtigruten was at Løvold quay, and thousands traveled on the local boats to and from Bodø. For most villagers, the city trip was the same as a trip to Løvold. At the time, it was not uncommon to have over 1,000 dinners in one day.

Don't think that traditional food means that the cafe doesn't keep up with the times. Who else but Løvold could tempt Bodø's first cake counter in 1951? In 1955, all table service disappeared, and customers had to order at the counter.

Why does Løvold survive everyone else? - We stick to a concept that never goes out of style. A concept we know - home cooking that follows the seasons. In recent years, catering and overtime food have become an increasingly important part of our turnover.”
