Description

Hotel Duran Restaurant

Billed as the perfect combination of tradition and avant-garde

“It was 1910 when husband and wife Joan Duran and Teresa Camps decided to rent the inn that had previously been known as Ca la Teta in the centre of Figueres. The couple decided to respect the spirit of the business, changing the name to Casa de Menjars J. Duran, and raising their family here. Their two sons, Lluís and Joan, put the establishment on the city’s culinary and tourist map. Today the business is run by Lluís and his wife Joaquima, with their children Ramon and Lluisa, having survived difficult times like the Spanish Civil War and the post-war era. And it was all possible thanks to the passion for hospitality of the Duran family, who still run the business.

Celler de Ca la Teta was the foundation for what Duran Hotel & Restaurant is today: a family-run hotel is true to its roots. This history, the stories that have accumulated over the years, the visitors and the decorative pieces they’ve given the establishment are what make Duran what it is now: a hotel, a restaurant and a little museum of the history of Figueres.

Duran Hotel & Restaurant is the most emblematic hotel in the area, with a long history and renowned prestige, it is also the perfect choice to enjoy a stay in Figueres: in the old town and shopping area, just steps from important buildings like the Museum Dalí and Museu del Joguet de Catalunya.”

Chip’s Notes

We highly recommend both the hotel and the restaurant at Duran. Staff at the hotel/restaurant, much like the town itself, speak a blend of French and Spanish, the region having changed hands many times over the centuries. Salvador Dali frequently dined there. This was his neighborhood and the Dali museum is located conveniently nearby.
